The hero came to kill the beast. But the beast is sleeping. It has been sleeping for centuries. The sword feels heavy. The monster looks tired. Maybe the labyrinth was not a prison. Maybe it was a home.
The necks rise from the swamp in every direction. You cannot see where they end. You cannot count them. At the edge, a warrior holds a torch and a blade and tries to count anyway.
