The forest burned for seven days. Everything is ash now. Everything except this — one sprout, one ember, one conversation between death and life.
No pack. No trail. Just paw prints in the snow and the knowledge that forward is the only direction that matters.
Three eggs. One intact. One cracking. One broken open with tiny footprints leading away into the dark. Whatever hatched is already gone. It did not wait.
The battle is over. The field is empty. One warrior remains, kneeling in the rain with his blade planted in the earth. Cherry blossoms fall on wet ground. He is not mourning. He is grateful.
No surface. No floor. Just blue in every direction and one small human choosing to float in it. The loneliest place on earth, and somehow the most peaceful.
The ship disappears into the fog. On the dock, one hand is raised. It stays raised long after there is nothing left to wave at.
Everything around it has died. The soil cracked, the rivers dried, the fields turned to dust. But a child still walks here every morning with a small bucket of water. The tree is still green.
The coffee cup fell. The coffee is spreading. In half a second it will reach the letter and the words will blur and disappear. But right now, in this frozen half-second, every word is still legible.
The concert hall is in ruins. The roof is gone. The seats are empty and covered in dust. But on the stage, one figure stands and plays. The audience is no one. The music is everything.
Every building around it has collapsed. The wires hang loose. The paint is gone. But at the top of the rusted tower, one signal still blinks. Someone, somewhere, might be listening.
